Meet our Director

Pooran Ramsingh was born in 1940 to a home of 11 brothers and one sister. Brought up in a humble and close-knit household, Pooran was unafraid of hard work. As a child, his diet was simple and consisted primarily of what was grown in his backyard and every day, he would walk barefoot to school with a small piece of roti and a mango or banana taken from the trees around his home.

An extremely gifted and talented student, Pooran passed his secondary entrance exam with flying colors and this success catapulted him from Mayaro into the city of Barataria. After he completed his secondary school, Pooran worked in a clerical job for around two years and then invested his hard-earned money in a joint venture that lasted for a year. After that, Pooran bought out his remaining partners and embarked on fulfilling his dream of creating his very own business — which he did by creating Caribbean Glass Specialists Ltd.
Pooran’s dream was to make Caribbean Glass Specialists a leading supplier of glass and aluminum products in the country.

The business started as a humble, one-door structure located at 85 Henry
Street Port of Spain in 1963 and transformed into a beautifully designed, multi-complex structure that is easily the crowning jewel of the San Juan/Barataria area along the East-West corridor. In an impossibly small amount of time, Pooran was able to transform the small structure to the Glass Gallery, which boasted a bigger footprint and fulfilled the need for the home décor, fixtures, and store displays market.

Pooran did not achieve his dreams overnight, though. However, the hardships, headwinds, and
headaches that came with establishing a business empire did not deter the indomitable young entrepreneur, who was always willing to take on a new challenge.

In 1971, Pooran achieved another milestone by incorporating the Caribbean Glass Specialists Ltd under the Companies Ordinance Act. At that time, the demand for premium products became so high that he had to open another branch nearby, the Glass Centre, which still operates to this day.

A few years later, Pooran purchased all of the properties within 49 to 55 Eastern Main Road Barataria.

This area was previously was a “food street” but with his keen business acumen, the site became home to the Aluminum Division, which staffed a skeleton crew of five people who only supplied and installed basic sliding doors, windows, and shower enclosures. Today, the establishment staffs over 50 employees and uses cutting-edge technology to fabricate a wide variety of products to fulfill the increasing demands of the glass and aluminum industry in our rapidly developing Republic.

Later, the street also
saw the installation of an architectural monument, which would become the Center of Operations for
the Caribbean Glass Specialists Ltd.

Over the years, Pooran’s glass and aluminum empire continued to grow, employing over 150 highly-skilled workers and creating a business that has served the community and country for almost six
decades.

Even during the pandemic with its many lockdowns, Pooran was not inclined to stay at home and rest on his laurels. He used the time instead to create plans to modify his main building — a venture that he had just started to implement, and which will most definitely be carried out as envisioned.

Caribbean Glass Specialists’ success and sterling reputation are testament to the fact that Pooran was unafraid of toil, was willing to take risks, and was committed to integrity in his business. Even after achieving so much, Pooran remained a humble man at heart and never fell short of giving due credit or
recognizing his staff and family's accomplishments and hard work.

He may be gone from this world, but his legacy will live on in his son, grandchildren and his empire.
